New York City Resources and Friends

The mission of Room to Grow is to enrich the lives of babies born into poverty throughout their critical first three years of development.   Room to Grow's program provides parents raising babies in poverty with one-on-one parenting support and essential baby items throughout their children's critical first three years of life. Parents expecting a baby are referred to Room to Grow by selected prenatal programs assisting low-income families.  Please support this non profit  in New York City and Boston and tell them Usborne Books sent you.  Their link is www.roomtogrow.org.

In Brooklyn we had a place known as Nelly Bly Amusement Park that was shuttered a few years ago......well the fine people of Adventurers Park have brought it back and it is now open.  For those of you who are not familiar with its location it is just down the street from the Bay Parkway Mall that includes Modell's, Circuit City, Toys R Us and Babies R Us.  This legendary amusement park is just off the Belt Parkway - Exit 5.  The park opens in mid April.  Please visit the new web site of Adventurers Park for more details.

For any parent raising a child in the Borough of Kings this is a must.  The advice given here is second to none,  If you live in the other boroughs the web site's advice is still pertinent.  Give Karen's site a look.

Rocking the Boat uses traditional wooden boat building and on-water education to allow high school age youth to develop into empowered and responsible adults. Through these mediums, Rocking the Boat empowers South Bronx students to deal with everyday realities that are often not addressed at home or in school. Four levels of community and youth development programs operate during the fall and spring academic semesters and over the summer. Together, the programs directly serve over 2,000 students and community members drawn from a range of New York City public high schools and neighborhoods, the majority being in the South Bronx. Rocking the Boat teaches, challenges, nurtures, and motivates, providing the tools to transition into the next phase of life. Kids don't just build boats at Rocking the Boat, boats build kids. The end result is students ready for college. Please visit their web site and help support their goals.

BBQ RESTAURANT in the heart of NYU.   To some this may not seem like the place to give mention to a restaurant, however this restaurant has been a New York City landmark for many years   They recently moved to 21 West 8th Street in the heart of the New York University neighborhood.  Marlon, the front of the house manager and host will take your special requests and make sure your meal is cooked to perfection.   At one time this location was in partnership with the "chain with the similar name" but they are not copycats by any means.   They took over the new space and made in beautiful and worth the trip to visit.  When you stop in tell them that William formerly of SYSCO sent you.   Please call in advance for parties of 20 or more  tel: 212-674-4450)   Here is a copy of the menu
